With the advancement of the internet and everything being run with computers, there hasn’t been one day where everything is threatened of being hacked by someone who is up to no good. Even though we find ways to secure everything, hackers still find ways to get through then. Just recently another one has been arrested for hacking.
An 18-year-old man has been recently arrested as part of an investigation into hacking groups in Shetland Islands. These groups are Anonymous and LulzSec. The man presented himself as a spokesman for both groups and has been using the online nick name Topiary. These groups are high-profiled and are known for stealing private information and releasing these information on other websites. The police have also been searching a house in Lincolnshire. They have been interviewing a 17-year-old as of late but with extreme caution.
They arrest the teenager through an intelligence lead that the police’s Central e-Crime Unit has come up. The Metropolitan Police thinks that he is linked to an ongoing international investigation about cyber-attacks that have been reported to have happened on international businesses and intelligence agencies. The arrested on Wednesday has been taken to London while they are searching his house.
There were recent claims from the hacking groups that they have done a few hacking in the recent days. The LulzSec had claimed that they were responsible for attempted to hack the UK’s Serious Organized Crime Agency or Soca, the US Senate, the CIA and the Sun newspaper. The Anonymous group released documents that were made secret by the Italian cybercrime unit last Monday.
Ryan Cleary, 19, of Wickford, Essex, who was believed to be part of the group was charged five offenses under the Criminal Law and Computer Misuse Acts last month, which even included the hacking against Soca.
Hacking has now become international but why do they do these things? What do they gain from it?
